Our Tudor Home Renovation Journey Begins!

I'm thrilled to share some exciting news with all of you – my family and I have found our dream home in the enchanting Northshore suburbs! As a realtor, I've had the pleasure of helping others find their ideal homes, but this time, the journey is personal. We recently purchased a 1920's Tudor, a true gem that, while needing some work, captured our hearts instantly. Just like with our last two homes, we see the potential beyond the dust and the peeling wallpaper.

Embracing the Charm:

Our Tudor is straight out of a storybook. With its whimsical exterior, leaded glass bay windows, wood-burning fireplace, and charming arched doors, it's a fairytale brought to life. The majority of the layout is exactly what we were looking for, especially with four bedrooms upstairs to accommodate our growing family and visiting guests. The charm of this house is irresistible, and we're dedicated to preserving it.

Lessons from Experience:

Being seasoned in the real estate world, I often advise my clients about the uncertainties and costs involved in moving walls and major rehabbing. Restoring and renovating what's already there not only maintains the historical essence of the house but also saves a lot of headaches and expenses. It's a lesson we've learned from our previous ventures, and it's a principle we're applying to our new Tudor.

Our Restoration Plans:

Our journey begins with addressing some essential issues. The 9x9 tiles in the entryway, likely containing asbestos, will be replaced for safety. We've discovered original hardwood floors under the carpet in every bedroom, a treasure waiting to be unveiled. The worn-out wallpaper will be stripped away, making room for fresh paint that will breathe new life into every corner. Upstairs, the kid's bath, in need of new plumbing, will undergo a complete makeover, ensuring both functionality and style.

A Medieval Touch and Structural Challenges:

One of our most exciting projects involves the kitchen and family room, part of a 1970s addition to the house. These spaces boast a medieval theme that we adore, and our goal is to enhance this unique aesthetic while infusing modern elements. However, we face a challenge – the sinking addition. With determination, we will repair the structure, followed by a complete gutting of these spaces. It’s a big project, but we're up for the challenge!

Countdown to Transformation:

With just over three months on the clock, our renovation adventure has a deadline. We embark on this journey with enthusiasm, determination, and a touch of nerves. Every nail, every stroke of paint, and every decision brings us closer to turning our Tudor into the home we've always dreamed of.
